Amazon's Ring Unveils Community App for UK Neighborhoods
Ring, Amazon's doorbell camera maker, is launching its Neighbours community app in the UK on October 21. The service aims to replace neighborhood WhatsApp or Facebook groups with a modern, targeted platform for sharing safety information and community matters.
The Neighbours app will allow users to post updates about lost pets, community events, and other local issues within a specified radius of their address. Posts are moderated by both AI and humans before publication, and must conform to a strict set of guidelines that bar illegal content, discrimination, and speculation.
Ring has removed some of the more controversial features from the US version, including the Neighbours Verified service and Community Requests feature, which allowed police to request footage from Ring cameras. These features are still in development for release in the UK later this year.
The new service also includes a 'Search Party for Dogs' feature, allowing users to post images of lost pets and enlist the help of neighbors with compatible cloud subscriptions.
