Amazon's Secret Investment Strategy Unveiled: A Semiconductor ETF in Disguise
Amazon is quietly building a vast portfolio of semiconductor and AI-related investments, which could potentially become more valuable than initially thought.
The company has been investing in various players across the supply chain, including Gold Circuit Electronics, Alchip Technologies, and Marvell Technology. For instance, Amazon will invest approximately TWD 1.589 billion (around USD 49.88 million) in a private placement with Gold Circuit Electronics, securing about 0.36% stake upon completion.
The significance of this move lies not just in the investment amount but rather in the fact that Gold Circuit is a key player in the AI server PCB supply chain, serving major cloud service providers. This transaction marks a strategic partnership between Amazon and Gold Circuit, blurring the lines between customer-supplier relationships.
Amazon's investment strategy involves employing warrants tied to procurement volumes or commercial payments, allowing the company to capture future equity upside from suppliers. This approach creates a closed loop where Amazon invests in AI CapEx, suppliers secure massive orders, their revenue and valuations rise, and the value of Amazon's equity holdings increases.
