Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is making waves in the AI chip market with its impressive string of wins and advances, posing a challenge to Nvidia's dominance. Despite controlling approximately 80% of the AI accelerator market, shares of AMD have surged over 150% in 2026 compared to just 12% for Nvidia.

The company is finalizing a deal with Anthropic to supply 2 gigawatts of AI computing capacity and may take an equity stake worth up to $5 billion. Microsoft's Azure has committed to using AMD's new Helios rack-scale platform, which pairs well with existing partnerships with OpenAI and Meta Platforms.

Turing, an autonomous driving company, is migrating 10% of its AI training workloads from Nvidia to AMD. AMD's new accelerators could potentially exceed Nvidia's performance in certain workloads by the end of the year.
