AMD Drops $8B on World Labs AI to Bolster End-to-End Platform
AMD has made its largest acquisition to date, spending $8-8.2 billion on World Labs AI, a startup founded by Stanford professor Fei-Fei Li in 2024.
The deal represents a significant expansion of AMD's focus beyond graphics cards for gamers, as the company seeks to build an end-to-end AI platform.
World Labs specializes in 'spatial intelligence,' developing AI models that can generate, perceive, and reason about 3D environments. Its technology has been used in applications such as gaming, robotics, and virtual reality.
The startup had raised $1.23 billion in funding before the acquisition, with AMD participating in a $1 billion equity round alongside Nvidia and Autodesk in February 2026.
