Nvidia has dominated the AI chip market for years due to its early start and commitment to innovation, but Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is gaining ground. AMD has made significant progress in recent quarters, outperforming Nvidia stock this year.

The company's revenue growth in the data center market has been impressive, with $6.5 billion in 2023 and a record-breaking $6.7 billion in the second quarter of this year, more than doubling year-over-year. Investors are taking notice, pushing AMD's valuation higher but still considering it a bold AI growth story.

Nvidia faces challenges in delivering explosive revenue growth due to its dominance in the market and enormous quarterly data center revenue. In contrast, AMD has plenty of room for growth without upsetting Nvidia's position. According to AMD chief Lisa Su, 'We are still in the early innings of a multiyear AI adoption cycle, and the opportunity ahead is enormous.'
