AMD Surges Ahead of Nvidia by 165-Percentage Points in AI Boom
The relationship between Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) and Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) has shifted dramatically in the past year, with AMD's stock outperforming its rival by a massive 165-percentage-point lead.
This significant gap marks AMD's widest margin over Nvidia since ChatGPT launched, as investors increasingly view AMD as a key player in the AI stack rather than just a low-cost alternative to Nvidia.
The shift is attributed to the growing demand for central processing units (CPUs) in agentic workflows, where autonomous agents operate in continuous loops, requiring significant CPU power. This is evident in Meta's new Muse agent, which has drawn 1.8 million iOS downloads across the U.S. and Canada in its first 12 days.
As a result of this change, AMD has raised its 2030 server CPU market forecast from $60 billion (growing 18% annually) to over $120 billion (growing over 35% annually), with CEO Lisa Su targeting 'agentic sandboxes' as the single largest driver of that expanding market.
