American Airlines Cuts New Aircraft Deliveries Forecast for 2026
According to American Airlines' latest Fleet Fact Sheet, the airline expects to receive around 48 new aircraft in 2026. This is a reduction from its initial forecast of 55 aircraft at the beginning of the year and further revised down from 49 in its April quarterly update.
The lower delivery forecast is primarily due to the pace of aircraft deliveries from suppliers, with General Electric GEnx engine delays being a contributing factor.
American Airlines operates an average of over 6,000 daily flights and serves nearly 350 destinations across more than 60 countries. The airline's fleet currently consists of over 1,000 aircraft, with the expected deliveries in 2026 including 102 Airbus A321neos, 44 A321XLRs, 115 Boeing 737 MAX 10s, and 19 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
However, due to changes in American's delivery schedule, none of the 787 Dreamliners are expected to be delivered in 2026, with one delivery moved from this year to 2027 and two aircraft originally scheduled for 2028 brought forward instead.
