American Airlines Expands Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout to Boeing Fleet
American Airlines is reportedly planning to extend its Starlink Wi-Fi rollout to its Boeing fleet, according to aviation insider JonNYC and subsequent reports from SimpleFlying and other outlets.
The carrier has already committed to equipping more than 500 Airbus narrowbody aircraft with Starlink by the first quarter of 2027. Sources suggest American now wants to bring this service to its Boeing 737, 777, and 787 fleets as well, which would mark one of the biggest Wi-Fi overhauls in US aviation.
This expansion would cover American's full mainline operation, allowing passengers across nearly every domestic and international route to access the service. Starlink uses a low Earth orbit satellite network to deliver internet speeds far exceeding traditional in-flight Wi-Fi systems.
American operates approximately 1,030 mainline aircraft, making it the second-largest commercial airline fleet in the world. Installing Starlink across this size of an operation is no small task and would require removing older antenna hardware, fitting new equipment, and certifying each aircraft for return to service.
