American Airlines to Build Largest Admirals Club at Charlotte Hub
American Airlines is set to build a massive new Admirals Club lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), addressing a longstanding need for upgraded facilities at its second-busiest hub. The airline announced plans for a sprawling 40,000-square-foot club located in the main atrium, which will be the largest in American's network. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the new lounge offering modern amenities such as shower suites, bars, and expanded seating areas.
The existing Admirals Clubs at CLT are outdated and frequently overcrowded, prompting the need for a significant upgrade. Heather Garboden, American Airlines' chief customer officer, emphasized that the new lounge will prioritize giving passengers more space to relax, work, and recharge. The new facility will be centrally located on the mezzanine level of the atrium, making it easily accessible from most concourses.
In addition to the new Admirals Club, American Airlines has other lounge-related projects in the works at CLT. The airline is also developing a higher-tier Flagship Lounge and has opened a smaller grab-and-go outpost called Provisions by Admirals Club. Beyond American's expansions, Charlotte is set to welcome additional lounges, including a Capital One Lounge and a second American Express outpost.
The exact opening date for the new Admirals Club has not been disclosed, and the two existing clubs will remain operational during construction. This latest development is part of American Airlines' broader investment in improving its lounge offerings at key hubs, including a major expansion at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
