American Express has unveiled its largest expansion yet of the Centurion Lounge Network, adding two new locations and upgrading existing ones. The company announced plans for a new lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and another at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), along with updates to lounges in Philadelphia and Houston. The Newark lounge, set to open in 2027, will be the largest in the Centurion network, spanning over 30,000 square feet and featuring multiple bars, a coffee and wellness bar, and locally sourced food options. The London Heathrow lounge, opening in 2028, will be the only issuer with two proprietary lounges at the airport.
The existing lounges in Philadelphia and Houston will undergo significant expansions. The Philadelphia lounge will more than double in size, while the Houston lounge will almost triple, adding specialty dining, a second full-service bar, and premium shower suites. These updates aim to enhance the travel experience for cardholders by providing more space and amenities.
Access to Centurion Lounges typically requires a premium credit card. The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card is one option, offering complimentary access for Delta flyers. The card also provides additional benefits like companion certificates, elite status boosts, and statement credits. However, it comes with a high annual fee of $650 and limited bonus spending categories.
American Express Centurion Lounges are known for their premium amenities, including complimentary food and beverages, shower suites, and work rooms. These lounges offer travelers a respite during hectic journeys, and the recent expansions and updates aim to further elevate the experience.
