American Express is significantly expanding its Centurion Lounge Network, marking its largest update yet. The company announced plans to introduce two new lounges at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR), while also upgrading existing locations in Philadelphia and Houston. The new lounge in Newark, expected to open in 2027, will be the largest in the Centurion network, spanning over 30,000 square feet. It will feature multiple bars, locally sourced food options, and a coffee and wellness bar.
The lounge in London Heathrow, set to open in 2028, will be the only issuer with two proprietary lounges at the airport. Meanwhile, the existing lounges in Philadelphia and Houston will undergo major expansions, with Philadelphia's lounge more than doubling in size and Houston's nearly tripling. Both upgrades are expected to be completed in 2028.
Access to these lounges is typically available to holders of premium credit cards. The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card offers complimentary access for Delta flyers, while the American Express Platinum Card® and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express provide unlimited entries to domestic lounges and select international ones. These cards come with higher annual fees but offer extensive perks and statement credits.
American Express Centurion Lounges are known for their premium amenities, including complimentary food and beverages, shower suites, and work areas. The expansions and new locations aim to enhance the travel experience for cardholders, offering more space and refined offerings.
