American Express Refreshes Sydney and Melbourne Centurion Lounges
American Express is giving its Centurion Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne a much-needed refresh. Starting October 6, both lounges will temporarily close for renovations, with Sydney’s T1 lounge reopening on October 20 and Melbourne’s T2 lounge following on October 21. This marks the first major update since the lounges opened in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
The closure comes as the lounges have seen increased traffic, partly due to Qantas tightening its lounge access policies. American Express has acknowledged the inconvenience but assured cardholders that the enhancements will be worth the wait.
During the closure, Amex Platinum cardholders can still access Plaza Premium lounges in Sydney and Melbourne. However, holders of Qantas American Express Ultimate and Premium Cards will need to use one of their two annual complimentary Qantas Lounge invitations.
American Express has expressed appreciation for its card members' patience and looks forward to welcoming them back to the refreshed spaces later this month.
