Amex Sees Opportunity for Growth Amid Overperformance
American Express (AXP) Chief Financial Officer Christophe Le Caillec stated that the company is performing better than expected, and as a result, they are deciding to reinvest in future growth rather than taking the overperformance as profit.
This approach has been consistent for American Express over the past nine years under CEO Stephen Squeri. The funds will be allocated into two main categories: new card member acquisition and technology development.
Le Caillec emphasized that they have a disciplined process to measure returns on marketing expenses, which includes monitoring performance and adjusting budgets accordingly.
