Amgen and AstraZeneca Combination Therapy Shows Promising Results for Lung Cancer Patients

Amgen Inc. and AstraZeneca PLC have reported positive results from their combined drug treatment trial for patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer.

The trial, which evaluated Amgen's Imdelltra alongside AstraZeneca's Imfinzi as a maintenance treatment, showed improvements across multiple measures including overall survival, progression-free survival, and response rate.

Patients in the study had not experienced disease progression following standard initial therapy. The combination of Imdelltra and Imfinzi demonstrated no new safety concerns emerged during the trial.

Imdelltra received accelerated approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2024 for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer, followed by traditional approval in 2025. The drug generated $513 million in sales for Amgen last year, representing approximately 23% of its total revenue.
