Amgen-AstraZeneca Lung Cancer Combo Shows Significant Survival Improvement

AstraZeneca and Amgen's lung cancer drug combination has shown significant improvement in overall survival for patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer, according to a recent trial. The treatment, which paired AstraZeneca's Imfinzi with Amgen's Imdelltra, resulted in improved progression-free survival and response rate.

The trial tested the combination as a maintenance treatment against Imfinzi alone in patients whose disease had not progressed after standard induction therapy. No new safety concerns were identified during the trial.

Imdelltra received accelerated approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2024, followed by traditional approval in 2025 for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. The drug generated $513 million in sales for Amgen last year, accounting for approximately 23% of the company's total sales.
