Amgen Brings Global Research Initiative to Indian Universities

Amgen has launched its first India Scholars Programme at the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad), marking its entry into the country's undergraduate research scene. The programme, which will run for two years until summer 2027, focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in healthcare and drug discovery.

The inaugural batch consists of 10 undergraduate students from India, Vietnam, and Qatar, who will work with faculty members at IIIT Hyderabad on projects related to AI and machine learning. The programme includes seminars, networking opportunities, and a regional summit in Tokyo in August 2026.

Naveen Gullapalli, managing director of Amgen India, stated that the programme aims to motivate skilled students to pursue research careers, enhancing Indian science capabilities. IIIT Hyderabad's Dean of R&D Deva Priya Kumar noted that the programme will enable undergraduate students to explore AI applications in health and pharmaceutical discovery.

Amgen Scholars is a global initiative with over 6,000 participants from more than 1,000 institutions worldwide. The programme is hosted by 26 institutions globally and marks Amgen's commitment to developing research capabilities in India.
