Amgen Launches Phase 3 Trial for Nplate in First-Line ITP Treatment

Amgen is pushing its platelet-boosting injection Nplate into first-line treatment for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in adults. The company has launched a Phase 3 trial testing romiplostim plus prednisolone against prednisolone alone.

The study, which began on July 7, 2026, is comparing two drug approaches to manage ITP symptoms. One arm receives romiplostim and oral prednisolone, while the other arm gets only oral prednisolone. The aim is to reduce bleeding risk while limiting long-term steroid exposure.

The trial is ongoing with active recruitment, according to the latest update filed on September 15, 2026. A positive outcome could expand market size and support revenue durability for Amgen's hematology portfolio.
