Amgen Under Fire Over Partnership with Breeding Company Amid Animal Abuse Allegations

Animal rights activists are targeting Amgen over its partnership with Marshall BioResources, a breeding company that supplies animals for laboratory research. The group, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE), organized a protest outside Amgen's Thousand Oaks campus on August 3, drawing around 20 participants.

The protesters were led by Pete Reimann, who poured fake blood on the ground and chanted slogans such as 'Wasted tax dollars are no excuse. Worthless experiments are no excuse.'

DxE alleges that Marshall BioResources has a history of animal abuse allegations, including multiple citations from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violations of the Animal Welfare Act dating back to 2007.

Amgen declined to comment on the matter, referring instead to its 'Commitment to the Ethical Use of Animals in Research' webpage, which states that it applies the highest standards of animal care to support animal welfare.
