Amgen Warns Patient Data May Have Been Stolen in Latest Healthcare Cyberattack
Cyberattackers may have stolen sensitive health information from biotech giant Amgen's cloud storage systems, the company warned. This is just the latest in a string of massive healthcare cyberattacks that have left millions of Americans reeling.
Amgen disclosed on July 31 that hackers accessed its cloud storage systems operated by third-party providers and stole company information, including patient health data. The company's cybersecurity response plan has been activated, and independent forensic experts are assisting with the investigation and remediation efforts.
Although Amgen has not identified any impact to its products, manufacturing operations, or financial reporting systems, it warned that some consumers' sensitive health data may be affected. This is particularly concerning because protected health information (PHI) can include personal details such as health conditions, treatment history, and insurance information.
