Ampersand Raises $15M to Simplify Enterprise Software Integrations
Ampersand, a startup co-founded by Ayan Barua and Lauren Long, has secured a $15 million Series A funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The company aims to solve a persistent challenge in enterprise software: the complexity of integrating with each customer's unique system configurations.
Barua and Long, both veterans of enterprise software integration struggles, recognized that every customer's system, whether Salesforce, HubSpot, or SAP, has custom objects, fields, and permissions that require bespoke integrations. This problem has become even more critical with the rise of AI agents, which cannot adapt to these variations as easily as human engineers can.
Ampersand's solution allows developers to declare an integration once, using version-controlled code, and have it adapt to each customer's environment at runtime. This approach eliminates the need for engineers to rebuild integrations for every new customer or fix them when schemas drift or credentials expire. The company claims a 90% success rate of turning proof of concepts into paying customers.
The startup's architecture avoids flattening systems into a lowest-common-denominator schema, ensures engineers retain control over the integration logic, and focuses on long-term reliability with automatic schema discovery and real-time alerts. As enterprises continue to customize their systems, Ampersand treats variation as the norm, making each system legible to software without manual intervention.
