AMS Councilor Candidates Share Their Experiences and Qualifications

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has announced its candidates for the Councilor position from the private sector, and three individuals have stepped forward to share their experiences and qualifications. Heidi Centola of IBM-The Weather Company believes that being a member of AMS is essential to her personal growth and career development, citing the opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals and contribute to the advancement of atmospheric sciences.

Centola's most memorable experience as an AMS member was not a single event but rather the cumulative effect of volunteering, learning, and leading alongside dedicated professionals and students. She emphasized the importance of building meaningful relationships and giving back to the community through her role in the Society.

Tim Hall of The Aerospace Corporation echoed Centola's sentiments, stating that AMS has enriched his life with long-term friendships, professional development opportunities, and a chance to give back to the meteorological community. His most notable experience was co-presenting a poster on AI/ML-based hurricane prediction at the 100th AMS Annual Meeting in Boston.

Daniel Rothenberg of Brightband highlighted the value of being part of a community that shares an ethos of service and collaboration. He credited his participation in the Science Policy Colloquium as a graduate student with galvanizing his passion for science policy and connecting him with like-minded peers.
