ANA Boeing Lands Safely After Engine Problem Forces Emergency Evacuation at Okinawa
An All Nippon Airways Boeing 737-800 made an emergency landing at Okinawa's Naha Airport on September 23 after developing an engine problem shortly after takeoff. The aircraft was carrying 152 passengers and had departed from Naha for Saga in the evening when an indication showed abnormally high oil temperature in the right engine.
The crew shut down the engine and requested priority handling before returning to Okinawa, where it landed safely on a taxiway around 10 p.m. Passengers and crew evacuated using emergency slides, with three passengers suffering minor injuries including scratches.
Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has classified the incident as a 'serious incident,' which is used for events that could have potentially developed into an accident. ANA will cooperate fully with the Japan Transport Safety Board as investigators examine the cause of the engine problem.
