Analysts Spotlight Amazon as Undervalued AI Investment

Amazon is emerging as a top contender in the artificial intelligence (AI) space, yet its stock may be significantly undervalued. Analysts highlight the company's strong position in cloud computing through Amazon Web Services (AWS), which saw a 37% year-over-year revenue growth to $42.2 billion last quarter. AWS is a critical player in the AI infrastructure boom, providing the necessary data center and platform support for AI services. Evercore's Mark Mahaney has set a price target of $355 for Amazon, which currently trades around $250, emphasizing the company's potential to transition from an AI laggard to a leader.

Beyond AWS, Amazon is leveraging AI to enhance its e-commerce and advertising divisions. The company is integrating AI search tools to improve customer experience, using AI for targeted advertising, and investing in automation across its supply chain, including warehouse sorting and drone delivery. While margins for the retail segment remain thin at 7.4% over the last 12 months, analysts predict long-term efficiency gains and margin expansions due to these AI investments.

Amazon's current market capitalization stands at $2.7 trillion, but its stock appears cheap when considering its growth potential. AWS alone has an annualized revenue rate (ARR) of $169 billion, with the potential to reach $232 billion in the next year if growth continues at the current pace. Factoring in the rest of Amazon's business, the company could generate around $800 billion in revenue over the next two to three years, with significant margin expansions. This would result in a consolidated margin of 10%, leading to $161 billion in total earnings and a forward earnings multiple of just 17, suggesting undervaluation.

Despite its strong fundamentals, Amazon was not included in the latest top 10 stock recommendations from The Motley Fool Stock Advisor. The article notes that past recommendations, such as Netflix and Nvidia, have yielded substantial returns, but cautions investors to consider their options carefully before buying Amazon stock.
