Android QPR1 Brings Unintended Changes to Pixel Status Bar Icons

The recent stable release of Android 17 QPR1 has brought some unexpected changes to the status bar icons on Pixel devices.

The most notable change is the replacement of the crossed-out speaker icon for silent or mute mode with a bell, which may have been an accidental regression. Google had previously switched from the bell to the speaker in Android 14.

This switch was not present during the Android 17 QPR1 Beta cycle and only became apparent with the stable OTA release this week.

Another icon change has also taken place, with the VPN icon now being thicker and filled in. This update is exclusive to the stable release and has not been seen in any previous versions.
