Android Update Simplifies Password Manager Transfers

Google has introduced a new feature on Android that allows users to transfer passwords and passkeys between password managers without downloading files. This change eliminates the previous requirement of downloading passwords into unencrypted text files, which left credentials unprotected.

The transfer process works by opening a new password manager app, selecting the option to import credentials from another provider, and reviewing and authorizing the transfer through the existing password manager. The data is then moved between apps in seconds. Currently, Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane support the transfer experience.

Google stated that additional password manager providers will add support for this feature in the future. This change aims to simplify the process of managing passwords and passkeys across different services.
