Anthropic Brings Claude AI Assistant to Google Workspace
Anthropic has announced that its AI assistant, Claude, is now integrated with Google Workspace apps, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The new add-on and connectors are available in public beta for all paid Claude plans. This integration allows users to access Claude through a sidebar next to open files, eliminating the need to switch between applications or browser tabs.
Claude can read and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations directly within Google Workspace. In Google Docs, it can modify sentences or headings while preserving formatting. For larger revisions, suggested changes appear as cards in the sidebar for user approval or rejection. In Google Sheets, Claude can create formulas, build pivot tables, and process data using Python. For Google Slides, it can create new slides using existing layouts and identify formatting issues.
Users can choose between two modes: “Ask before edits,” which requires approval for each change, and “Accept all edits,” which allows Claude to complete tasks without stopping for confirmation. The integration also ensures that enterprise plan customers retain access to existing security controls, including the Compliance API and customer-managed encryption keys. Additionally, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors enable Claude to create and edit files directly from the Claude chat interface.
The add-on is available through the Google Workspace Marketplace, and domain administrators can deploy it across their organization or to selected groups through the Google Admin console.
