Anthropic IPO Set to Boost Amazon and Alphabet to New Heights
Anthropic's highly anticipated IPO is generating significant interest in the market, with several top investment banks leading the offering. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan are at the helm, while Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao has been meeting with early investors to discuss the deal. The company's confidential S-1 filing indicates a target listing window in mid-October.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Anthropic's IPO is its implications for two mega-cap stocks: Amazon and Alphabet. Both companies hold significant equity stakes in Anthropic, with Amazon estimated to hold between 15% and 21%, while Alphabet maintains a 14% to 15% position. These investments were made as part of structured capital layouts that include early funding tranches and commercial milestones.
As a result of these agreements, both Amazon and Alphabet have benefited from significant mark-to-market gains. In Amazon's case, Q2 2026 non-operating income included roughly $53 billion in adjustments from Anthropic, pushing GAAP earnings per share far beyond consensus estimates. This exposure has transformed Amazon into a leveraged holding company for premier private AI equity.
Similarly, Alphabet's position in Anthropic has driven significant commercial lock-ins, including a $40 billion commitment in April 2026 and access to up to 1 million Tensor Processing Units. These arrangements have contributed to Alphabet's record $112.1 billion in Q2 2026 net income. However, the earnings from these mark-to-market gains are unrealized and may be reversed if Anthropic's IPO pricing or initial trading disappoints.
