Anthropic IPO Set to Enrich Amazon and Alphabet with Valuation Over $2 Trillion
Athropic's highly anticipated IPO has set its sights on mid-October, with Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan leading the charge. The confidential S-1 filing has sparked chatter about a valuation approaching $2 trillion, roughly double the company's Series H round in May.
This massive listing will not only test AI valuations but also enrich Amazon and Alphabet, which hold significant equity stakes alongside long-term cloud infrastructure contracts with Anthropic. Amazon holds an estimated 15-21% stake in Anthropic, built through a structured capital layout including an early $8 billion tranche, $5 billion added in April 2026, and up to $20 billion tied to commercial milestones.
In return, Anthropic committed over $100 billion to Amazon Web Services and Trainium hardware over the next decade. This has already started to land on Amazon's balance sheet, with non-operating income containing roughly $53 billion in mark-to-market adjustments from Anthropic in Q2 2026, pushing GAAP earnings per share far past consensus estimates.
Alphabet maintains a 14-15% position in Anthropic, contractually capped to manage the competitive tension between Google's internal Gemini models and Anthropic's Claude. Despite this rivalry, Alphabet committed up to $40 billion in additional funding in April 2026, securing a massive commercial lock-in with Anthropic pledging roughly $200 billion toward Google Cloud.
