Apache Ossie Takes Flight with Open Governance Framework
The Open Semantic Interchange project has reached a significant milestone as it enters the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) Incubator under its new name, Apache Ossie. This move is expected to provide an open, vendor-neutral, and community-driven governance framework for the project.
Initially co-founded by Salesforce, the Open Semantic Interchange was designed to centralize semantic governance and ensure that metrics are interpreted consistently across different tools and platforms. The project has already gained momentum with over 50 organizations contributing to its development, up from its initial 17 launch partners.
The transition to the ASF will allow for an open discussion-and-vote process to determine decisions, specification updates, and roadmap features. This ensures that no single corporation can unilaterally alter or sway the project's direction. Additionally, contributions and leadership are earned through active community involvement rather than employer affiliation.
