Boeing Union Votes Looms as SPEEA Weighs Tentative Contract
Boeing is on edge as its largest white-collar union, SPEEA, prepares to announce its verdict on the company's contract offer. The decision comes after weeks of negotiations and a proposal that was seen as more favorable than expected by some members.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) negotiating team has been supporting the tentative contract since July, which includes terms such as wage hikes tied to inflation and individual performance. However, the technicians' bargaining unit council advised rejection, while the engineers failed to meet the necessary majority for a recommendation.
Boeing's CEO emphasized that early negotiations were meant to benefit both employees and the company, with the goal of preventing project slowdowns crucial for ongoing 737 Max 10 and 777-9 certification campaigns. The results are expected in the mid-afternoon in Seattle on Friday.
