Apple Cuts EU App Store Commission Amid Regulatory Disputes
Apple has announced that it will reduce its standard EU App Store commission from 30% to 26%, effective October 1. The move comes as a result of close collaboration with the European Commission, which had fined Apple $579 million in April 2025 for preventing developers from steering customers to cheaper offers outside the App Store.
The new rate card will also introduce a flat 5% commission on digital sales for apps distributed outside the App Store. This replaces the per-install Core Technology Fee, which was a contentious issue between Apple and regulators.
The reduced rates are expected to leave more revenue with EU developers, but analysts view the de-escalation of regulatory risk as a positive development for Apple's stock valuation. The company's services segment produced $30.7 billion in revenue in the fiscal third quarter of 2026, up 12% year over year.
