A TUI Airways flight from Cape Verde to Manchester was forced to issue an emergency Mayday call and divert to East Midlands Airport after a security breach on the airfield blocked its final landing.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8, registration G-TUMN, departed Aristides Pereira International Airport (BVC) at approximately 4:00 PM local time following a 2.5-hour departure delay.

After five hours of transit, the aircraft commenced its approach to Manchester Airport and was lined up on final approach for runway 05L when Air Traffic Control ordered it to go around due to an active security incident on the ground.
