Apple Ditches Hyperscaler Approach for AI Development
Apple's AI strategy is distinct from that of hyperscalers like Nvidia due to its approach to capital expenditures and artificial intelligence development.
The company recently beta-launched its Siri AI voice assistant, but despite criticism for taking a slow approach to AI, Apple continues to prioritize integrating AI features into its existing ecosystem rather than investing heavily in data center build-out.
According to chief financial officer Colette Kress, the hyperscalers are targeting $800 billion in capital expenditures this year. However, through the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, Apple's capital expenditures totaled just $6.8 billion.
This decision has allowed Apple to maintain its pristine financials, with consensus analyst estimates predicting free cash flow (FCF) of $143.7 billion in fiscal 2026 and $153.4 billion in fiscal 2027.
