Apple Enters Smart Home Market with Device Hub Launch on October 13
Apple is set to enter the smart home market with its first major product expansion under new CEO John Ternus. The company plans to launch a device hub, codenamed J490, on October 13, marking a key milestone in its foray into this highly profitable arena.
The hub will feature a roughly 6-inch square display and come in two versions: one designed for wall mounting and the other for tabletop placement. The device will be equipped with faster processors to support more powerful AI models for Siri, Apple's revamped digital assistant that has faced multiple delays.
According to insiders, the new HomePod mini will also be unveiled on October 13, featuring new colors, including green and pink. The first update to the HomePod mini since its launch in 2020 will retain its current design but boast improved performance with faster processors to support more powerful AI models for Siri.
The device hub's defining feature is its ability to recognize multiple members of a household and deliver personalized content and responses based on their data and account. It can identify users via voice or facial recognition, though the latter is less reliable than Face ID on the iPhone.
