Apple Expands Tap to Pay on iPhone to Eight Latin American Countries
Apple has expanded its Tap to Pay feature on iPhone to eight new markets in Latin America, allowing merchants to accept contactless payments without dedicated point-of-sale hardware.
The expansion brings Apple's international footprint for this service to 59 countries and regions. The technology relies on the Near Field Communication (NFC) chip embedded in modern Apple devices, which exchange a small, encrypted packet of data with the customer's payment method over a short-range radio frequency.
The newly supported markets include Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Peru. To utilize this service, merchants require an iPhone XS or a more recent model running the latest version of iOS.
