Apple Eyes AI Server Market Return with Nvidia Partnership
Apple is considering re-entering the enterprise server market after a 15-year absence. The company would partner with Nvidia to develop AI servers using custom silicon and NVLink technology, which allows for high-speed data transfer between chips.
The proposed partnership would combine Apple's M8 Ultra chips with Nvidia's NVLink Fusion technology to create a server capable of processing massive amounts of data in real-time. This move would mark a significant shift in Apple's strategy, as the company has focused on embedding AI applications on its operating systems and devices through third-party technology.
Apple's servers wouldn't be available until 2029, but the development could signal a new direction for the company under CEO John Ternus. The initiative was backed by Ternus when it was suggested a year ago, and Apple staff believe Nvidia's technology offers the best available option.
