Apple Eyes Nvidia Tech for AI Server Reentry

Apple is considering using Nvidia's NVLink Fusion technology in its planned AI inference server powered by M8 Ultra chips, according to The Information. This marks a potential return to the server market for Apple, which last sold dedicated hardware under its Xserve line in 2011.

The planned AI server could come in versions featuring two or four M8 Ultra chips, and would be targeted at AI developers, businesses, and governments. Apple has discussed using NVLink Fusion to connect M8 chips, but it's unclear if the technology will ultimately be used.

Relations between Apple and Nvidia have been strained for nearly two decades, following an alleged defect in Nvidia graphics chips that caused widespread MacBook failures.
