Apple Eyes Return to Enterprise Server Market with Nvidia Partnership
Apple is considering re-entering the enterprise server market for the first time in 15 years, according to a report by The Information. The proposed move would see Apple partner with Nvidia to develop AI servers that use custom silicon and NVLink technology.
The servers would be available in two or four M8 Ultra chip configurations and are geared specifically for AI inference. This marks a significant shift in Apple's strategy, as the company has focused on embedding AI applications on its operating systems and devices through third-party technology.
Apple's proposed server initiative is expected to start in 2029, with Nvidia providing NVLink Fusion technology to connect the M8 Ultra chips. This would allow for high-speed data transmission of up to 900 gigabytes per second, which is seven times faster than conventional x86 servers.
