Apple Eyes Screenless Health Tracker to Counter Whoop and Oura
Apple is reportedly exploring the development of a screenless health tracker to compete with devices from Whoop and Oura. The project, which has been in an exploratory phase for several months, features a minimalist design consisting of a lightweight fabric strap with integrated sensors.
Top Apple executives, including Executive Chairman Tim Cook and services chief Eddy Cue, are backing the initiative, which aims to counter fast-growing competitors in the health ecosystem. The device is currently classified internally as a 'technology investigation', and a commercial debut would not occur until at least 2028, according to reports.
The proposed tracker focuses purely on biometrics and fitness monitoring, eliminating the need for a screen. This pivot reflects broader changes in the health ecosystem, where companies like Whoop and Oura have captured millions of users by offering streamlined, distraction-free health tracking.
