Apple Faces $2.7 Billion UK Lawsuit Over App Tracking Transparency
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is facing a £2 billion ($2.7 billion) lawsuit filed at London's Competition Appeal Tribunal on behalf of app developers.
The suit, led by Ann Pope, a former senior official at Britain's Competition and Markets Authority, alleges that Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature unfairly imposed stricter consent requirements on third-party apps than on Apple's own advertising services.
Apple has already shown flexibility in its tracking policies without abandoning its privacy strategy, having agreed to change certain advertising-related data rules in Germany following regulatory pressure.
The company's strong financial performance should help it withstand the potential cost of the lawsuit, with fiscal third-quarter revenue reaching a June-quarter record of $109.4 billion, up 16% year over year, and iPhone revenue rising 22% to $54.3 billion.
