Apple Faces Massive Patent Verdict Over iPhone Haptics Tech
A federal jury in San Diego has ruled that Apple must pay Taction Technology over $5.7 billion in patent damages. The verdict centers on Apple's Taptic Engine technology, which is used in iPhones and Apple Watches to provide haptic feedback.
The case dates back to 2021 when Taction initially filed a lawsuit against Apple, alleging that the company had improperly used its patented vibration technology without authorization.
In response to the verdict, Apple stated that its Taptic Engine operates on entirely different principles than Taction's patented technology. The company has confirmed its intention to appeal the decision.
