Apple Inc. Surpasses $3.74 Trillion Valuation as Tech Giant Continues to Dominate
Apple Inc., one of the world's most valuable companies, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. The company was initially called Apple Computer Company but later changed its name to reflect its shift from computers to consumer electronics in 2007. With a revenue of $391.04 billion in fiscal 2024, Apple is the largest tech company by revenue.
Apple's early success came with the introduction of the Macintosh computer in 1984, which featured a graphical user interface and mouse. However, internal challenges led to Jobs' departure in 1985, and Wozniak left the company as well. In 1997, Apple acquired NeXT, bringing Jobs back on board, who revitalized the company with innovative products such as the iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and iTunes Store.
Under Tim Cook's leadership after Jobs' resignation in 2011, Apple continued to grow and became the first U.S. public company to hit $1 trillion in 2018. Today, Apple is the world's most valuable company by market cap since 2011, with a valuation of over $3.74 trillion as of December 2024.
Criticisms of Apple include labor practices at supplier factories, relations with trade unions, environmental impact, and business ethics, such as anti-competitive behavior and materials sourcing. Despite these concerns, the company maintains a massive fanbase and exceptional brand loyalty.
