Apple iPhone Duo Fails to Impress in China Due to High Price Tag

Apple's latest iPhones have faced a lukewarm reception in China due to their high price tag. CNBC reported that Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) new iPhone Duo is priced at 15,999 yuan ($2,230 USD) in China, which is higher than Xiaomi's newly launched 18 Fold at 10,999 yuan but lower than Huawei's trifold Mate XT2 at 19,999 yuan. This has led to concerns that the device may be too expensive for many Chinese consumers.

The high price of the iPhone Duo may restrict demand even among consumers who like Apple's brand. Analysts question how many buyers will spend at least $1,999 on a foldable phone, which could confine the Duo mainly to wealthy enthusiasts and loyal Apple customers after the initial launch excitement fades.

However, Apple has a strong position in China's smartphone market, with 18.1% share, and its existing customer base could help drive sales for the iPhone Duo. The device also enters the foldable market with real momentum among Chinese smartphone buyers, with Omdia expecting global foldable smartphone shipments to reach 22.3 million units in 2026.
