Apple Names Hardware Chief John Ternus as New CEO Amid Focus Shift
Apple's long-time CEO Tim Cook is stepping down and will be replaced by John Ternus, the current head of its hardware division. Cook has grown Apple's market capitalization by nearly 1,900% over his 15-year tenure as CEO, making him one of the most successful CEOs in corporate history.
Ternus, who is 50 years old and has spent 25 years at Apple, worked on the iPad, Mac, and AirPods before taking over responsibility for all of Apple's products. Despite his lack of AI credentials, analysts see Ternus as a 'continuity candidate' and expect him to focus on tight operational execution, margin management, and incremental product iteration.
Apple's stock declined 0.6% in the after-market session on Monday, but retail traders on Stocktwits were broadly upbeat about the appointment, with sentiment flipping to 'bullish' from 'bearish'. The company is expected to announce its fiscal second-quarter results on April 30, followed by the Worldwide Developers Conference starting June 8.
