Apple Overtakes Nvidia as World's Most Valuable Company Amid AI Spending Concerns
Nvidia, once the world's most valuable company, has lost its top spot to Apple after a significant drop in stock value. The gaming technology specialist's AI-driven growth had propelled it to the number one position earlier this year, but Apple's recent surge has pushed Nvidia down.
Despite the decline, Nvidia still benefits from high AI spending by major tech companies like Amazon and Alphabet. These firms invest heavily in AI infrastructure, with both planning to spend around $200 billion in 2026 alone. As a result, a large portion of this investment goes directly to Nvidia, which is considered the gold standard for AI development platforms.
Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang predicts that total AI spend will reach $1 trillion next year and $3 trillion to $4 trillion by the end of the decade. He believes Nvidia will generate $1 trillion in revenue from 2025 through 2027 from its Blackwell and Rubin lines alone, with a significant portion of this coming from hyperscalers investing in AI infrastructure.
However, investors remain cautious about the future of AI spending and how long the cycle can last. The market is worried that Nvidia's revenue growth may slow down, causing its stock price to drop further. Currently, Nvidia trades at 19 times trailing-12-month sales, which may make it vulnerable to downward pressure.
