Apple Pay Arrives in India via Axis Bank Partnership
Apple Pay has officially launched in India, partnering exclusively with Axis Bank to offer its contactless payment service to credit card users. The service allows customers to make payments using their iPhone, Apple Watch, or iPad, expanding Apple's ecosystem in the region.
This launch coincides with Apple's growing manufacturing presence in India. Between April and August, Apple exported $13.2 billion worth of iPhones from the country, marking a 47% year-on-year increase. The surge in exports highlights India's increasing role as a key manufacturing hub for Apple's global supply chain.
The record export volume during this period underscores the rapid scaling of Apple's production facilities in India. The company's strategic shift to diversify its supply chain has led to significant growth in both unit volumes and component sourcing within the nation.
With the introduction of Apple Pay, Apple aims to compete with established digital payment platforms like Google Pay and Paytm. The move signals Apple's broader strategy to deepen its integration into the Indian market beyond hardware manufacturing, capturing a share of the growing digital transactions landscape.
