Apple Pay Lands in India with Axis Bank Partnership
Apple has launched its digital payments service Apple Pay in India, expanding its global presence to over 90 countries and regions. The service allows users to make contactless payments at stores and online using Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by Axis Bank.
The launch does not include support for India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) or RuPay cards, which are widely used in the country's digital payments ecosystem. However, Apple has worked with Indian payments companies to enable the service across their merchant networks.
At launch, the service will be accepted across merchant networks in India, including major brands such as Blinkit and Zomato. Apple is looking to bring additional credit card issuers and merchants onto the platform.
