Apple Pay Lands in PH with Contactless Payments for Four Banks
Apple has launched its Apple Pay service in the Philippines, allowing Visa and Mastercard clients to register eligible cards on their Apple devices for contactless transactions. The service is initially available through four banks: GoTyme Bank, China Banking Corp., Union Bank of the Philippines, and Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co.
According to Jennifer Bailey, Apple Vice President, 'The Philippines is home to a digital-first generation that is rapidly embracing a vision for a cashless future, all while expecting security and privacy at every step.'
The service will allow users to make payments at merchants that accept contactless transactions, including grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops, and retail outlets. Users can authenticate transactions using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, along with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
