Apple Pay has officially launched in the Philippines with an initial roster of four partner banks. The participating banks are China Banking Corp., GoTyme Bank, Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co., and Union Bank of the Philippines, according to Apple's Philippine website.

The service allows eligible Visa and Mastercard cardholders from these banks to use their iPhone or Apple Watch for contactless payments at supported terminals. Payments can also be made through apps and websites using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Visa sees the launch as another step towards the country's transition towards digital payments, making transactions more convenient for Filipinos and international visitors.

Mastercard echoed a similar view, saying the rollout gives consumers a secure and convenient way to pay in line with accelerating digital adoption. UnionBank also expressed its support, stating that the integration aligns with its goal of making banking more intuitive and secure for customers.
