Apple Returns to Server Market with In-House AI Server Push
Apple's shares have climbed about 1% to around $334 after a report revealed that the company is developing an in-house AI server built around its own silicon. This move would mark Apple's return to the commercial server market, which it has been focusing on consumer devices for years.
The servers are reportedly being developed with two or four M8 Ultra processors and will primarily focus on AI inference workloads. The project is not expected before 2029 and could still change or be canceled, according to the report.
Apple's strategy of replacing outside processors with its own silicon has been successful in products like the Mac, and this move could give Apple exposure to a market far beyond iPhones and Macs.
